Oh how I wish I could clone Jeff & Nancy and do a thousand weddings just like this one! Is that possible? Where are my mad scientists at?

At the start of the big day, Nancy got to the church and applied her own makeup, letting me know she was my kind of bride when she told me her “lipstick” was actually just tinted Burt’s Bees lip balm! Gotta love the low-maintenance ladies!

6 Month old baby boy sitting underneath a sign that says "Jack"

Jack’s parents (Jenny & Dusty) have been coming to me for their pictures for years now–in fact, I did their engagements, wedding, a family session, a maternity session, and finally got to meet Mr. Jack for his newborn photos 6 months ago!

So when they invited me to their beautiful new home to take 6 month portraits, I couldn’t say no!

6 months is one of my favorite ages for babies. They’re cute and chubby, they respond, smile, laugh, and sometimes can sit up on their own (but also can’t crawl away just yet!).

Sitting up all on his own! (for about 10 seconds…)

It’s around this time of year, the not-so-lovely doldrums of winter, that I start longing for the warm, sunny summer days. And with those warm days comes one of my favorite types of session, the outdoor photo session! Don’t get me wrong, shooting in-studio and playing with studio lighting can be a lot of fun. But most people (especially kiddos) seem to be much more relaxed and casual when outdoors.

The first question everyone asks upon booking their outdoor photo session with me is “Where should we go to take our photos?”. So at the risk of spilling all my secret spots (!), here’s a list of my top 5 locations in and around the Sioux Falls area.

1. Rotary-Norlin ParkRotary-Norlin Park, Sioux Falls SD

Located not far from the 26th Street Exit on I-229, this one probably isn’t a really big secret. In fact, I run into about 5 other photographers any time I shoot there. But there’s a good reason this location is so popular. Lovely mature trees, a river, a bike path, and an amazing bridge all make great locations for photos. It’s especially lovely in the early morning or late evening when you get beautiful golden light through the trees! Oh, and did I mention it has a PLAYGROUND? That always makes for lots of fun photos!
